His name was pronounced, like that, on the fly, by a certain Fabien Galthie. invitation from Canal + at the beginning of September, the national coach had let go that he and his staff were closely following the Toulousain Dimitri Delibes in their perpetual quest for a UFO at one of the 2023 World Cup in France. Words that did not escape the person concerned.
But of a rather shy nature, the 23-year-old boy, trained in Blagnac (Haute-Garonne), will not get carried away and prefers to keep a cool head. “It’s encouraged, it’s fun. Afterwards, you have to know how to put the small boxes in the big ones. You have to work in a club, because I arrive on tiptoe. I’m making a good start to the season, but we mustn’t rush. I have to put things in the right place”.
4 games, 3 starts in Top 14
At the start of the season, Dimitri Delibes, who resumed in Seniors at the age of 17 in Blagnac (under the leadership of a certain Christophe Deylaud), is gaining momentum and gaining playing time, surfing on his good performances from the second half of last season. “I’m very happy to have played 4 matches, including 3 starts,” he said.
This sequence gives him confidence, he who was on the floor for more than a year when he arrived in Toulouse in 2018 due to a pubalgia. With self-sacrifice, he overcame that, won titles (Champion of France Espoirs, he played first during the double in 2021), and is now part of the rotation of the Rouge et Noir. And if it is rented, Dimitri Delibes also recognizes that he has things to correct in his game “Performance-wise and application-wise, I have a lot better to do.” A way of not ignoring some dross, in particular forwards in very favorable positions.
“With a dog’s state of mind in Montpellier”
training center, but having been aligned each time as a pro winger in Toulouse before the start of this season, Dimitri Delibes now alternates. Inevitably, he has to adapt, but that may not cause him any problems: “There are details that change”, he replies all the same. “When you play in the center, you have to make the team shine. There are choices to be made more quickly”.
This Sunday, October 2, during the trip to Montpellier that Toulouse will do without several of its internationals, Dimitri Delibes will continue. “We will see how I will be on Sunday evening. We will not have the right to be surprised, he is the champion of France. We will have to go there with a dog’s state of mind. We’re really going to test ourselves there.” And in particular Dimitri Delibes, who must climb a new step on a personal level.
