the competition that will give heat to Toulouse
This is a first in Occitania, a pepper tasting competition will be held in Toulouse, this Saturday, October 1. Two tests are invoked to decide between thrill seekers, which notably involve eating the hottest pepper in the world.
The challenge promises to be met. This Saturday, October 1, 2022, as autumn and its freshness are felt, an event will warm up many Toulouse residents. Organized by the merchants of Arnaud Bernard, the Chili Challenge will make more than one blush.
This chilli tasting competition is the first to be held in Occitania. Peppers are also Occitan: they are produced in Ariège by Jean-Philippe Turpin, who cultivates more than 70 varieties. Entertainment will take place throughout the day on Place Arnaud Bernard, and participants will have prizes to win, including a trip to Mexico for the big winner.
A chilli competition in two rounds
Two tests will decide between the participants of the competition, to elect the champions of the piment de Toulouse. The first one, “Challenge sauces”, brought together 50 people. Registration is to be done on site during the event. This challenge consists of tasting hot sauces on tender chicken, which range from 0 to 1,500,000 units on the Scoville scale, which allows you to measure the “spiciness” of a pepper.
The second test goes up another notch. the “Challenge Fresh Chilli” is limited to 10 places, on prior registration (already full). The participants will go up on a stage for a tasting of fresh peppers. Sensitive languages abstain: the test will end with the Carolina Grim Reaper, the hottest pepper in the world in the Guinness Book of Records. This is measured around 2,000,000 Scoville units.
