Red Bull Salzburg just avoided the first home defeat in the Bundesliga after 31 games on Saturday.
Bundesliga – 10th matchday
The league leaders scored thanks to a goal from Oumar Solet in the 96th minute against the LASK a 1-1 draw after falling behind through Marin Ljubicic in the 78th minute. Due to the second home draw of the “bulls” in a row, Sturm Graz would come within two points of the leader in an away win against Wiener Austria on Sunday.
Salzburg’s hopes of a successful dress rehearsal for the Champions League match on Wednesday in front of their own audience against Dinamo Zagreb were not fulfilled. LASK has been without a win for four rounds, but is still unbeaten away from home this season.
LASK with the better chances
Salzburg knocked on the LASK goal for the first time (6th) with a header from Maximilian Wöber, which was easily defused by Alexander Schlager, but then proved to be a more dangerous team for a guest. “Bullen” goalkeeper Philipp Köhn had made an effort with runners-up von Ljubicic (9th) and Thomas Goiginger (16th). In this phase, LASK showed itself to be defensively stable and repeatedly provided accents on the offensive.
Before the eyes of ÖFB team boss Ralf Rangnick, the home side only found themselves better in the game towards the end of the first half, but without creating any compelling chances. LASK keeper Schlager was there for shots by Amar Dedic (31st) and Maurits Kjaergaard (40th), and a flick by Noah Okafor landed on the side netting (36th). Like storm partner Benjamin Sesko, the Swiss was in good hands with the LASK defense.
Salzburg comes out of the break better
After the next change of sides, Salzburg used a little more pressure, but LASK scored the goal: Peter Michorl’s free kick from near the goal line hit the crossbar (63′). Immediately before that, champion coach Matthias Jaissle made a triple change and sent Andreas Ulmer onto the field, among others. With his 370th championship appearance for the “Bullen”, the left-back became the Salzburg league record player along with Thomas Winklhofer.
however, there seemed to be no reason for the ÖFB international and his club colleagues to celebrate. In the 78th minute, Salzburg couldn’t get the ball out of the danger zone after a throw-in, Michorl headed the ball back into the box, where Ljubicic shot freely and overcame Köhn. Almost two minutes later, “Joker” Roko Simic had the equalizer on his foot, but didn’t hit the goal from a few meters. In the 94th minute, Simic headed the ball straight to Schlager from a good position, seconds later Sekou Koita just missed the target.
The fact that the equalizer was still successful was due to a serious mistake by Ljubicic. After his bad pass, the ball came to Solet, who shot in to make it 1-1.
