Riddick: the nursing cat from Vitoria adopted in Andorra
Riddick’s story began in August when an Andorran couple was on vacation in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Pili Solano and her partner started the car and heard noises despite the noise of the engine. There he found a lactating cat in “very bad condition”. Two months after reaching the Animal Protection Center, this couple has adopted Riddick and the cat from Vitoria will travel to Andorra to share a house with five other animals.
Pili Solano is a vet tech assistant and assisted Riddick before taking on the CPA. Once there, the veterinarians showed him dehydration, cachexia, a severe eye condition that left him practically blind, symptoms of respiratory viral disease, fleas or ticks. This made his will only survive a few hours. However, the work at the Vitoria Animal Protection Center allowed this Vitorian cat to get ahead.
Now, Riddick “is a very social cat,” although the aftermath has left him with a very low vision. And for that reason, the Andorran couple has decided to adopt this cat from Gasteiz. “I was going to be an invisible animalno one was going to adopt him, and we didn’t want to rescue him so that he would spend his whole life in a shelter,” explained Pili Solano.
During the year, the CPA welcomes between 300 and 500 new homeless cats. Most of them arrive at this center between March and October. “Before adopting, you have to think about it very well. There are many animals waiting for a second chanceI invite citizens to come and meet them, we will help them with their doubts”, says Pepe Fernández, veterinarian at the CPA.
