In the Republic of Moldova, the pension for the age limit covers the value of the subsistence minimum. The subsistence minimum for pensioners differs depending on the environment of residence. Thus, for pensioners from big cities it was 1,999.9 lei, compared to 1,828.0 lei for those from other cities and 1,745.0 lei for state pensioners. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the average size of the old-age pension was 2595.3 lei at the beginning of the year, increasing by 25.5% compared to the previous year. The average size of the old-age pension for men was 2960.6 lei, compared to 2432.2 lei for women. Thus, the gender disparity in the case of old-age pensions was 17.8%.
The average size of the old-age pension enabled the coverage of the minimum subsistence value for old-age pensions to the extent of 143.3% in 2021.
According to the data of the National Social Assistance Agency, in 2021, 1.1 thousand social workers were active, who provided free home care services for 15.9 thousand beneficiaries, including 13.0 thousand elderly people who have reached retirement age (81.7%). Women constituted 80.0% among the elderly beneficiaries of this service.
In 2021, 50 were active in the country social aid canteens (32 in rural areas and 18 in urban areas), established by local public administration authorities, which served 13.4 thousand people, including 8.9 thousand elderly people who reached retirement age (66.4%). Women constituted 73.8% among the elderly beneficiaries of this service.
Beneficiaries of services in granting centers specialized services there were 7.2 thousand elderly people, women constituting 50.4%.
Apart from this, according to the minimum package of social services, they benefited from monetary support addressed to disadvantaged families/persons 1.5 thousands of elderly people.
