Hundreds of Iranians protested in downtown Budapest
In the early afternoon of Saturday, hundreds of Iranian protesters marched in downtown Budapest, on Váci Street. The protesters were protesting against the Iranian regime. The demonstration took place in a peaceful environment, despite the fact that there was a high level of police preparedness in the area. The wave of protests, which has already spread beyond the borders of Iran, erupted after the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman in September. We wrote more about the Iranian demonstrations in this article.
On September 13, Mahsza Amini traveled to Tehran, the capital of Iran, to take care of some things for her upcoming university studies, but at a metro stop, the people of the Islamic customs enforcement agency shoved her into a minibus full of women who were arrested for “improper dressing”.
According to the women traveling with Amini, they started torturing the young woman already in the minibus: first they hit her with sticks, and then her head was hit against the side of the vehicle several times. After her abuse, Amini had to attend a lecture on proper dress, but during one of the breaks she collapsed and died three days later in a hospital in Tehran.
The girl’s funeral on September 17, held in her hometown, Szakkez, turned into a demonstration, and within days Amini became a martyr of the oppressive theocratic regime. Local Iranian communities in several countries around the world are joining the wave of protests that has already spread to at least eighty Iranian settlements. According to official data, more than 40 people have already died in Iran due to symptoms of choking on blood.
