Modeste’s terrible return to Cologne
Anthony Modeste (34) will soon forget this game!
In the 2: 3 defeat of Dortmund in Cologne, the BVB striker returns to the cathedral city for the first time since his move in the summer.
And the FC fans let the French hear their frustration!
The Knipser, who scored 79 goals in 157 games for Cologne, was mercilessly hissed at by the supporters while warming up. During the game, Modeste is also accompanied by a whistling concert every time he touches the ball.
The fans hold up posters and write: “Nice, that’s fine, Tony” and “Who fails the loyalty test for euros?”. A nod to the famous Modeste song.
It’s twice as bitter for the ex-Cologne player on the pitch: His successor, of all people, scores for the Cologne team!
56 minutes: After a corner from Kainz, Steffen Tigges (24) beats DFB defender Schlotterbeck at the near post and nods off to make it 2-1.
Tigges had moved from BVB to Cologne for 1.2 million euros before the season and trained with Modeste for a few more weeks before he went to Dortmund. Ironically, he heads his first Bundesliga goal for Cologne against his former employer.
Recording revealed! This is how Modeste was really received

Only 153 seconds before the 2: 1, the Cologne equalize. Florian Kainz (29) scores after a nice combination to make it 1-1 (53′) after national player Julian Brandt (26) had given BVB the lead (31′).
Dejan Ljubicic makes it 3-1 with a flick from the edge of the penalty area and makes Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart (50) dance! When cheering on the bench, the coach stops on the sidelines, takes two steps to the left, two steps to the right and then continues to cheer.
The Cologne coach: “In the second half, the boys took heart in hand and marched.”
Goalscorer Ljubicic: “If I ever stop playing football, I will remember this game.”
But BVB does not give up. Defensive talent Tom Rothe (17) came on as a substitute in the 77th minute and scored just one minute later to make it 3-2. However, the compensation no longer wants to succeed.
Referee frustration at BVB: In the 29th minute, Cologne kicker Duda kicked Özcan around in midfield without a chance to get the ball. A clear red card! Referee Harm Osmers only pulls out a yellow card, Cologne can play to the end with eleven men and celebrate at the end.
BVB trainer Edin Terzic (39) bursts after the end of the game on “Sky”!
He rages: “Before every season we are asked about the expectations and we always put the brakes on the euphoria precisely because of games like today.”
And further: “Today we saw again very clearly what has been lacking for years to knock on the top.”
