What to do in Pisa and its province on the weekend of 1 and 2 October 2022
Between wind and heavy rain clouds, autumn is moving forward. And in the hope that the sun will come a little, here are some tips for the next weekend including books, wine, oil, walks in nature, good food and music.
We start with the twentieth edition of Pisa Book Festival, the long-awaited national fair of independent publishing among the longest-running in Italy and Tuscany. Also Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October thus a joyful river of books, readers and great authors returns to Pisa. The headquarters is the complex of Republican Arsenals, with the stands of 90 exhibitor publishers, while the meetings with the authors, the workshops and the masterclasses (over 100 in 4 days) will be hosted in the rooms of the Museum of Ancient Ships, in the Auditorium of the Museum of Palazzo Blu (where the events dedicated to art) and, for the first time since this year, in the church of San Vito on the Lungarno.
Street food with typical dishes prepared by associations, live music in the streets of the village and in the scenic square of the Castle, guided tastings and wines from the companies of the Montescudaio Doc Consortium. Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October the 54th edition of the Wine Festival Montescudaio Doca tradition that is renewed from year to year in the village of Montescudaio.
And from wine to oil with the usual Novo Oil Festival 2022 at the Antico Frantoio Toscano Del Rio Grifone in Vicopisano. In the afternoon of Saturday 1 October the machines will be turned on and after about an hour it will be possible to see and, taste, taste the new oil 2022. There will above all be tastings of bruschetta and aperitifs. And, before the party, a free walk among the olive trees by the Associazione Dèi Camminanti.
New initiatives of the Sforni Farm from Lorenzanathat Sunday 2 October (at the Saletto Poggio house) gives a day of creativity and fun with two workshop, divided between morning and afternoon. In the morning the workshop is dedicated to instinctive cooking (vegetable, wholemeal and healthy), while in the afternoon space for flowers and wreathsweaving of wood, demonstration and test of working of the cooked iron wire and demonstration of ancient writing.
For those who want to keep fit Saturday 1 October there is Cascina In-Forma, Run for Health, an open city race, not competitive at all, a day outdoors in the name of movement, sport, health and sharing. The route is circular, with departure and arrival in the center of Cascina. Participants will travel along a stretch of cycle path on the Arno, a natural and fascinating area that not all the inhabitants of Casciano know.
The Festival of Calabrian culturewith its XVIIIth edition. Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II in Pisa it hosts the Calabrian food and wine and handicraft stands. Several side events are scheduled. An opportunity to immerse yourself in the flavors and culture of Calabria.
Sunday 2nd October the qualified guides of Natourarte propose a route in the Medieval Pisathrough the churches of San Sisto, San Frediano and the Cathedral, and their history: from the procurement of stone materials to construction. It will combine scientific observation of historical building materials with information and archeology.
The ‘Saint Michael the Archangel’ Festivalpasses from the cultural association I Bei Legami, reaches its fourth edition in the splendid church of San Michele in Borgo in Pisa. Saturday 1st October it will be the musicians of the instrumental ensemble I Bei Legami who will perform a program of music for strings through the famous works of Mozart, Janáček and Elgar, while the following day will be the organist Stefano Vasselli, owner of the church of S. Paolo by Walls of Rome, a journey entirely focused on Cesar Franck.
