HAZ Hannover update: What next in the passerelle?

Good morning, dear readers!
In addition to the worries about the development of Hanover’s city center as a magnet for shopping sprees, there is a new one: the Passerelle. Vacancies in the business premises cannot be overlooked. Eleven out of 65 shops are affected, says Sabine Tegtmeyer-Dette, formerly the city’s head of environmental and economic affairs and now managing director of the Region Hannover property company (HRG), which owns the areas. Eleven out of 65 – “that’s a lot to win” says the boss straight out and without euphemism.
The area directly under the main train station causes few problems. The relationship status of the Hanoverians with the business addresses on the minus one level between the main station and Kröpcke is complicated. So complicated that at the end of the Corona period there were significant gaps in the store. As my reporter colleague Christianhnenkamp found out from Tegtmeyer-Dette, the reaction at this point is commendably creative by Hanover standards: some shops are temporarily given over to the agency for use of space, which is used by creative people – painters, designers and an “office for appreciative criticism”. to let. None of this directly helps Hanover as a shopping location, but still: great! But what’s next there?
Of course there are still problems en masse at the Passerellen exit to Raschplatz. The drinking scene hangs out there, and many passers-by avoid going directly from the Passerelle to the Lister Meile. Tegtmeyer-Dette drew attention to itself earlier in the year with the suggestion that the Raschlatz “pit” between the main station and Hochstrasse be roofed over. Are the thoughts in the right direction? Is that affordable in the end?
