There could be two comebacks in Salzburg – Hockey-News.info – All news about national and international ice hockey
EC Red Bull Salzburg is playing two home games in the win2day ICE Hockey League this weekend. On Friday, the HC Pustertal Wölfe will come to the Salzburg Eisarena (7:15 p.m., free live stream) and on Sunday it will be EC-KAC (4:30 p.m., pulse 24). With both opponents it is the first meeting of the season.
Four wins from the first four games – the Red Bulls started the championship season really well and want to keep their clean sheet after the next two home games. The Pustertaler Wolves make the start and they didn’t suit the Red Bulls last season – at the time when they were promoted to the league. Although the Red Bulls had won three out of four games, all four games against the South Tyrolean team went beyond regular time. The reigning champion is preparing for a heavy chunk again this time.
Salzburg’s striker Ali Wukovits agrees: “The start of the season went well. Also in the Champions Hockey League. With Pustertal we are expecting a strong team again, just like last year. It’s a structured team, they’re physically strong. We want to move fast with the disc and work as a team. We definitely need to play our best hockey if we want to extend the streak.”
But youngster Luca Auer and his teammates are rested and looking forward to the encounter: “We’ve now had five good training sessions and are very motivated. Against Pustertal we want to get three good thirds back on the ice. We’re expecting a close game, but we want to concentrate on doing things right.” The 18-year-old from Salzburg has a plan: “We want to play well and simply. Bring discs down, run after them and bring energy for the other lines.”
In the current regular season, Friday’s opponents from Brunico, with new head coach Stefan Mair (Italy, 55, came from SC Thurgau, Swiss League), won 4-2 against VSV, but had to admit defeat against Székesfehérvár and Linz. In Salzburg, the Pustertalers are playing their first away game of the new season.
The Red Bulls are hoping for the return of the last long convalescent forwards Ty Loney and Paul Huber at the weekend, but it is still unclear when they will play. There is still a question mark behind the ailing Troy Bourke. Also not in the lineup are Dominique Heinrich (ill) and Lukas Schreier (injured). The Friday game can be seen in the free live stream on redbulls.com and Puls24.at.
