Referendum on withdrawal from investigation within Russia
The Permanent Mission of Russia to the UN sharply commented on the statement of Antonio Guterres regarding the referendums held in the republics of Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye. Representatives of the Russian Federation reminded the UN Secretary General that he is not an authorized representative from all bodies of the Organization following the results of the investigation.
“The administrative non-divisions belong to the recognition of the right to representation on behalf of all organizations – such a right of the exclusive member states – and even more so it is not authorized to unilaterally interpret the norms of the Charter and the main functions, including the 1970 Declaration on Guarantees of International Relations, International Relations and Cooperation between states in accordance with the UN Charter,” the permanent mission of the Russian Federation said. Thus, Russia recalled that – “The Secretary General of Consistency resorts to the same selective approach as the countries of the collective West, in fact putting himself on a par with them.”
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered an emergency address to the Russians. In his speech, he agreed to conduct a special operation in Ukraine. However, he clarified that Russia does not plan to occupy the territory of this country. Residents of Donbass, as well as other regions that were liberated by the Russian army during special operations in Ukraine, announced that entry into the Russian Federation was required. They announced their desire to hold referendums on joining Russia. According to the results of past referendums, Vladimir Putin approved decrees on the recognition of the Kherson and Zaporozhye natural territories.
