Near Toulouse a reception center for migrants creates controversy
To the south west of Toulouse, in the commune of Saint-Lys (10,000 inhabitants), a migrant reception center created controversy. The town hall calls on residents to gather this Friday evening to discuss the subject and demand answers from the prefecture. It is expected that a Cépar, return preparation center, will welcome 126 migrants next year instead of a current EHPAD.
126 places, the equivalent of 30 families
The building is located a few tens of meters from a small shopping center, on the edge of the main road, it is one storey high, its general condition leaves something to be desired, its capacity is 126 places (30 families maximum). This is where the prefecture of Haute-Garonne plans to soon welcome for a short period of 2 to 3 weeks or even a month foreigners with exhaust your residence rights in France, migrants who have chosen to join a program of voluntary return to their country of origin and who are currently distributed in apartments in various places.
The objective of this Cépar is to prepare for their return : draw up a consular pass, book air tickets. At the same time, foreigners benefit from service tickets to be used in nearby shops for meals, transport tickets and medical and social monitoring. But the children are not in school.
The socialist mayor of Saint-Lys is not opposed to welcoming these foreigners to his town, but he considers that he has no sufficient guarantees concerning their reception in good conditions.
Whether municipal opposition does not want a return preparation center planned for 126 foreigners, most of the inhabitants of Saint-Lys are in favor of it.
