Municipalities do without the usual Christmas lights – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – Against the background of the energy situation, the heads have agreed to forego the usual Christmas lights in the communities this winter as a sign of a conscious use of energy.
It remains completely dark and uncelebratory over the winter period, but not: As the Mayor’s Conference announced on Friday, Christmas trees are to be set up and partially illuminated to create a Christmas atmosphere during the Advent season. Mood lighting can also be used at events such as Christmas markets, etc.
The Liechtenstein municipalities would like to make a joint contribution to saving energy. For this reason, not only are there no Christmas lights, but the lighting time for community buildings such as churches, town halls, etc. is also reduced. Where technically possible, the same applies to the LED panels at the entrance to town. Most street lighting has already been converted to LED and has been dimmed or even switched off at night for a long time.
Further measures such as the handling of sports fields, gymnasiums, swimming pools and event venues will be discussed at a later date.
