Index – Abroad – The CEO of the Ukrainian Railways thanked Hungary for helping to transport the grain
Alexander Kamjisin, the head of the Ukrainian railway company, thanked Dávid Vitézy, the state secretary responsible for technology and industrial transport, on Twitter, that the government will increase the amount of grain coming to us by rail from Ukraine via the Záhony transshipment area with an investment of more than HUF 12 billion.
The state secretary announced the measure on Friday morning.
Great news! The reconstruction of Záhony will increase freight traffic from Ukraine to Hungary and further to the EU. Thank you for doing what we agreed to do
Kamjisin said.
As we wrote, Dávid Vitézy and László Palkovics held joint technological and industrial negotiations with all Hungarian interested parties, and then the state secretary also consulted with the management of the Ukrainian Railways in Berlin on the matter. The precise technical content proposal was developed based on these consultations together with MÁV specialists.
However, the enormous new task suddenly thrust upon it poses a huge challenge to the railway infrastructure, logistics, and labor management. Dávid Vitézy said that the traffic is often blocked by wide wagons waiting to be unloaded or already empty, or normal wagons waiting to be loaded.
He added that the abandoned tracks of the transshipment area handled a much larger volume of goods before the system change, but since then they have been operating with a much smaller capacity, which should be put in order.
