Education campaign: Without teachers, “Kaos” and “Hart Breaker” thrive
Inspiring young people and people who might be switching to the teaching profession, providing them with comprehensive information and improving their image are the goals of the “without teachers” campaign. The starting signal was given today, in line with the topic, in the practical elementary school of the Salzburg University of Education.
SALZBURG. What would be without teachers? The information campaign of the state of Salzburg, which is intended to counteract the lack of teachers at the compulsory schools in the state, deals with this question. The main causes of the problem that the country is tackling together with its partners are demographic change, the wave of retirements of the baby boomer generation, a shortage of workers in all areas as well as the duration and disregard of the attractiveness of training.
Motivated together for the most beautiful job
“We would like to attract as much attention as possible to young people aged 16 to 18 and to motivate them, as well as potential changers from other professional fields and fields of study, to become teachers. There is also a lot of potential among those who work part-time as teachers. It is probably the most beautiful job in the world, which could hardly be more meaningful,” emphasize the partners in the “without teachers” campaign, Regional Councilor Daniela Gutschi, Education Director Rudolf Mair, Daniela Hubinka from the University of Salzburg, Mario Kostal from the University Mozarteum and Daniela Martinek , the director of the University of Education.
It’s about the future of our children
Salzburg urgently needs teachers at the general compulsory schools. A large number of educators will be retiring in the coming years and there is an annual need for around 270 new teachers to be filled. “With this campaign we will not only provide comprehensive information, but also show where society would be without teachers. It’s about the future of our children and that we can give them the best possible education and training on their way through life. This is not possible without teachers,” said Gutschi at the start of the campaign.
Need for action in training
The campaign alone WILL NOT solve the problem of teacher shortages. “We are in constant contact with all stakeholders in the training institutions, the schools, student representatives and the responsible federal authorities,” says the state councillor. The Ministry of Education in particular has some potential for improvement. Teacher training would have to be shortened and made more practical, the obligation for a master’s degree in its current form would have to be reconsidered and lateral entry should be made easier.
implementation
The young and fresh campaign “without teachers” is intended to attract as much attention as possible from young people. The lynchpin is the website www.ohnelehrinnen.at, which presents professions, training paths and partner organizations. The messages are spread on City Lights, online, on social media as well as in radio spots and cinema advertising. This is massively supported by the campaign partners, who also offer the training on their own channels as well as at career information fairs and more.
