discover the future Becquerel cancer center in Rouen
In 2026, cancer patients followed in Rouen (Seine-Maritime) will be treated in the new Henri Becquerel centre. More spacious, brighter and more comfortable buildings for patients.
The Henri Becquerel Center in Rouen is one of the 18 Cancer Centers in France in the Unicancer network. Over the years, the establishment has become a center of reference and excellence, but its premises were beginning to become dilapidated. To continue to cure sick people but also to meet the requirements set by the Cancer Plan III, major work has been launched. A piece of land located near the current center was purchased in order to be able to focusing on prevention, investing in research, promoting equal access to care, preserving the continuity and quality of life during and after cancer, optimizing the management and organization of the fight against cancer, developing and securing ambulatory care, develop e-health, promote physical activity, improve cooperation between health establishments and then with city professionals “, displays the site of the establishment.
A presentation of the project was made on September 28, 2022. In total, 10,000 m2 of square surface, wooden and glass materials, round curves will emerge from the ground at the location of the Thuilleau gymnasium. This site will be linked to the existing center by a footbridge.
It will bring more comfort to patients: “ We will endeavor to offer quality spaces in terms of light or view of the outside, of smells to avoid having smells reminiscent of the hospital. It also involves comfortable places but also furniture that will be more of a living room type than a medical one”, specifies the architect Geneviève Carini, architect “group-6”
The new building will house day hospital outpatient activities and a prevention centre. It will relieve congestion in the current centre.
” The Becquerel center, which receives just under 30,000 patients a year, was overcrowded. We have a lot of difficulty taking care of serious patients such as leukemia. Our activity has increased by nearly 30% in the last five years. It was therefore fundamental to think about a project in which we could expand “, explains Professor Pierre Vera, general manager of the Henri Becquerel center.
Thanks to this new site, 30% more beds will be available. Work will start by summer 2023 for an opening in early 2026. Cost incurred: 86 million euros, largely financed by equity.
