Computer scientist wins Science Slam – University of Innsbruck
On Tuesday, another science slam took place in the greenhouse Innsbruck. Five scientists presented their research in short, entertaining presentations on stage to a full house. The audience was the jury and chose computer scientist Elwin Huaman as the winner. He will take part in the Austrian finals in Vienna on Friday.
After a three-year break due to the pandemic, science communicator Bernhard Weingartner again invited to the science slam in the greenhouse on Tuesday evening. From neurosurgery to cancer research to exotic place names in East Tyrol, from innate musicality to the question of what traditional knotwork from the Andes has to do with modern smartphones. Alexander Weiss, Emanuel Klotz and Elwin Huaman from the University of Innsbruck, Anto Abramovic from the Medical University and Johannes Steiner from the Mozarteum presented exciting research live on stage, pointed and understandable in 6 minutes each. In the end, the audience was called upon to choose the winner. Points were shared in small groups. And in the end, Elwin Huaman from the Department of Computer Science was the winner. In his contribution, he explained what the knot writing of the Incas has to do with Google’s Knowledge Graph. As the Innsbruck winner, he will take part in the federal finals in Vienna on Friday.
