Women’s Volleyball World Cup: Belgium qualified in the 2nd round after Puerto Rico’s victory!
Puerto Rico (FIVB 19) beat Cameroon (FIVB 27) 3 sets to 0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-11), during the fourth day of Group A of the Women’s World Volleyball Championship, Thursday, in Arnhem . A result that ensures Belgium (FIVB 13) a place in the next round.
Earlier in the day, Italy (FIVB 3) continued their clear round by beating Kenya (FIVB 29) 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-17).
The Italians, European champions, lead the group with 12 points. The Netherlands followed with 9. These two teams have already qualified for the next round. Belgium has 6 points, after two wins and a loss, and is ahead of Puerto Rico (3) and Kenya (3), Cameroon remaining stuck at 0.
On Friday (8:00 p.m.), the Yellow Tigers will challenge the Netherlands (FIVB 10) before finishing this first round against Cameroon on Sunday (1:00 p.m.). The day before (4:00 p.m.), Puerto Rico and Kenya will meet in their last group game. Only one of these two teams can therefore still overtake the Belgians in the standings.
The top four nations from each of the four groups of six join the second phase, October 4-9, in a new group of eight, in Rotterdam and Lodz. The Belgium group crosses with Group D (Brazil, China, Japan, Colombia, Argentina and the Czech Republic) in Rotterdam. The first four of this new group go to the knockout finals in Apeldoorn and Gliwice.
The quarter-finals will be played on October 11, the semi-finals on October 12 and 13 and the finals on October 15.
