Toulouse. With foodtruck and cocktails, a place dedicated to street-art settles in a former car garage
By Lucie Fraisse
Some time ago, people came here to change their tires, repair their car’s engine or replace their vehicle’s clutch. But from Saturday 1uh october 2022, the old Speedy garage located at the top of alleys Charles de Fittea Toulousewill host an exhibition of ephemeral graffiti.
A temporary place
Behind this project, we find in particular the Toulouse graffiti artist Loïc Mondé, one of the initiators of the Mister Freeze exhibitions. A regular, too, of these ephemeral places dedicated to urban art. In the past, he had launched Lay up, boulevard des Minimes, in a 1200m² building. Or Offline, installed in a former supermarket in the Saint-Cyprien district.
“We asked our network and promoters we know to find a place like this,” explains Loïc Mondé. At the end of the year the building will be demolished, they lend it to us in the meantime. It’s a winning deal for everyone, it also prevents the building from being squatted before the work begins. »
Twenty graffiti artists
A 600 m² building, with a pretty exterior where about twenty graffiti artists from toulouse and moreover were able to let their creativity express itself on walls or on canvas.
“The ephemeral side of the place corresponds well to the world of graffiti,” says Loïc Mondé. What we like is to start from places to create, it’s the building that gives ideas. »
Food truck and cocktail bar
The Garage by Layup –this is the name of this ephemeral gallery – is also a place of life. With shop, but also a part restaurant and bar. The Crulottés foodtruck, with its 100% raw menu, takes care of the catering part.
On the bar side, there will be a great offer of original cocktails. Animations will also be offered throughout the month of opening of the garage by Lay up.
