This is how Denmark demonstrates against the World Cup in Qatar
The new uniforms for the Danish men’s national football team are a mourning, says Hummel.
– The black jersey must be seen as a walking mourning band, which shows respect for the thousands of migrant workers who have lost their lives so that Qatar can host the World Cup. It also shows respect for those left behind.
According to Danes, the sponsorship manager in Hummel, Morten Lund, saw it the policy.
The Danish football team plays with red home kits and white away kits.
In the Nations League match against Croatia on 22 September, the Danish players wore a new, black football kit.
All three of these kits are of the same color with logos that do not stand out from the background.
Hummel Sport sign on Instagram that even if they support the Danish team, they will not be visible during a tournament that has cost thousands of human lives.
Rejects the criticism
The committee that plans the World Cup in Qatar rejects the criticism.
– We wholeheartedly reject the trivialization of our genuine commitment to protect the health and safety of the 30,000 workers who have built the stadium and other tournament projects. The same commitment does not extend to 150,000 workers on a cross-tournament of various tasks under benefits and over 40,000 workers in the service industry, the committee follows Politiken to the German news agency DPA.
Last year report The Guardian that over 6,500 migrant workers have died in Qatar since the country was awarded the football World Cup in 2020.
The committee believes that Hummel is wrong in the number of dead workers. They refer to the collaboration with the Danish Football Association on issues they have expressed concern about and ask the association to have a talk with Hummel.
