Russian citizens with a document confirming their Lithuanian origin will be admitted to Lithuania
The Emergency Coordination Committee headed by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Agnes BilotaitÄ—, decided to clarify the procedure for crossing the state border, which may be announced due to the consequences of the mobilization and the trend of migration from Russia in recent days, according to the report.
The Ministry of the Interior notes that Lithuania adheres to the provision that there is no automatic mobilization basis to admit the citizenship of this country to Lithuania. Each case is decided individually, assessing all the information and potential threats to Lithuania’s national security.
Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis confirmed on Thursday in the Seimas that a solution is being sought to help Russian citizens of Lithuanian origin find themselves in the European Union (EU) after the partial mobilization is announced, but he will have to anticipate “national security challenges”.
He also confirmed that there may be “several persons” who are of Lithuanian origin but do not have Lithuanian citizenship.
The Ministry of the Interior announces that he will continue to Lithuania, that he will not be allowed to continue.
Exceptions will also be applied in cases where prior information is received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that there is a need to admit Russian citizens on humanitarian grounds.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs indicates that after the borders were closed to Russian citizens, 273 persons were denied entry to Lithuania within 10 days.
Since last Monday, only persons who meet the Government’s approval criteria have been admitted to the Baltic States and Poland: Russian diplomats, dissidents, employees of transport companies, family members of EU citizens, as well as Russians with residence permits or long-term national visas from Schengen countries.
Also, Russian citizens can continue to travel to and from the Kaliningrad region via Lithuania via transit trains.
After Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization last week, thousands of Russian men left and are still going to host countries – Sakartvel, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Turkey.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, asylum in Lithuania cannot be obtained based solely on the fact that a person does not want to go to the war started by Russia. It will not be enough to prove the threat that has arisen by simply showing that you have received a draft for military service.
The countries of the region are coming under restrictions imposed by Russia as Moscow continues its invasion of Ukraine.
