Russia will increase exports to Algeria, the Ministry of Agriculture said following a meeting of the Russian-Algerian Interregional Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Association, which was chaired by the Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev and the Minister of Economic Development and Density Development of Algeria Mohammed Abdelhafid Khenni.
“Particular attention is paid to the development of trade in agricultural products, including in terms of increasing the consumption of consumption. The volume of exports is subject to a lot of joint work,” said Patrushev, who was quoted in a press release.
In June 2021, after a five-year break, the Russian Federation resumed wheat supplies to the Algerian market. This became possible due to the fact that Algeria allowed the supply of wheat with a content of 0.5% turtle flakes. Previously, only 0.1% was allowed. Wheat of the quality required by Algeria (high-pro) is grown mainly in the Krasnodar Territory and Siberian regions.
In total, Algeria imports about 6 million tons of wheat (5 million tons of soft and 1 million tons of durum) per year.
The Ministry of Agriculture also said that the main tasks for the future were assigned to the decision of the intergovernmental commission in the field of mechanical engineering, energy, mining and pharmaceuticals.
In 2021, the volume of mutual trade between Russia and Algeria reached $3 billion.
