UK: A woman on Twitter named Liz Trussell is having her very own John Lewis moment when people mistake her for Britain’s next Prime Minister.
Mrs Trussell appeared to have seized the Twitter handle @LizTruss in the face of the Conservative leader (who goes by @trussliz), with rival party leaders and even the Swedish prime minister sending the wrong account.
While some people may have corrected those who had mistakenly tweeted them, Mrs Trussell has sent cheeky replies with somewhat hilarious results.
Caroline Lucas, the co-leader of the Green Party, thought she had unleashed a scathing attack on the next Prime Minister when she wrote: “@LizTruss still doesn’t get it – Boris Johnson *didn’t* get Brexit done, his myriad mistakes over Covid are costing countless lives, and he leaves after dishonoring his office.
“Meanwhile, she has campaigned as a right-wing ideologue and will govern as such – which is a disaster for us all.”
When another Twitter user chimed in with “and I bet she likes cake”, Mrs Trussell was only too happy to confirm the inevitable, writing: “I love cake.”
A few hours later it was the Swedish Prime Minister’s turn to inform Liz of the error.
Magdalena Andersson quickly deleted her post, but not before Trussell expressed a desire to meet.
She even suggested the Scandinavian leader bring a delicacy from her home nation, writing: “Looking forward to a visit soon! Get the meatballs ready.”
Twitter user Mollymoo flagged feminism when she wrote: “Many congratulations to @LizTruss well done.
“Show them all that the best man for the job is a WOMAN.”
Mrs. Trussell replied, “Preach sister.”
Some Twitter users realized that Mrs Trussell was not Britain’s next Prime Minister but still reached out to show their support.
Soulis Theodosiou was perhaps overly optimistic when she wrote: “There must be a way the new PM can be appointed via Twitter and the Queen accidentally appoints @Liztruss instead.”
Backing herself to form a close friendship with her royal namesake, Mrs Trussell wrote in response: “Yes!!!!!! Me and Queen Liz would definitely be besties.”
Jake Graham liked what he saw when he looked at Mrs Trussell’s profile picture, writing: “Liz Trussell who has the @Liztruss Twitter handle looks like an absolute hunk! Can we please PM her instead? @loveofhuns.”
Mrs Trussell approved of this message and retweeted it.
