Five hundred testimonies of people who arrived in the peninsula from more than 50 different countries, collected in ten years of activity. This is the measure of the DiMMi (Migrant Multimedia Diaries) competition, through which since 2012 the memories of subjects of foreign origin who live or have lived in Europe are selected in the context of an initiative carried out with the support of the University of the Republic. of San Marino, involved in the scientific committee in collaboration with other realities. Together with the Research Center on Emigration of the University of San Marino, which includes the Museo dell’Emigrante, located in the historic center, make del Titano, over 40 partners are taking part in the project, with the support of the Tuscany Region. The 2022 edition of the competition took place on 16 and 17 September last in Pieve Santo Stefano, in the province of Arezzo, in the presence of the selected authors and with the presentation of the volume in which the winning texts were collected in 2021, entitled ” Like trees on the way ”, with sixteen stories published by Terre di Mezzo Editore. As part of the Pieve Saverio Tutino Award, organized by the National Diary Archive, in addition to participating in the initiatives related to the DiMMi project, the director of the Research Center on Emigration of the University of San Marino, Patrizia Di Luca, consolidated the already active relationships with the National Museum of Italian Emigration (MEI) in Genoa, a structure distributed over three floors and divided into 16 areas in the Ligurian capital: “Together with the curator Nicla Buonasorte we confirmed the projects already undertaken and reaffirmed the intention to continue in mutual sharing of materials such as documents, research and stories, as well as organizing conferences that could be based on the Titan in 2023 ”. This adds to the initiatives already curated, including the DiMMi project: “The meetings with the authors – explains Di Luca – are important because in this way the written words acquire a face and a voice. The texts that participate in the competition to tell the different fears and hopes that accompany the decision to emigrate. They take us into the emotional life of the protagonists. Through their gaze and their experience we get closer to understanding contemporary migrations with greater awareness ”.
