Managed by the APAJH of Calvados, the ESAT CLEOS has just opened this Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Whethersouth of Caen (Calvados), a solidarity shop dedicated to ready-to-wear, reused or second-hand.
“It’s not a thrift store”
“It’s not a thrift store”, immediately specifies Aurélia Mousset, director of the ESAT (Establishment and services of Help through Work).
After collection at voluntary drop-off points in the urban area, we sort and only present in stores what is new or very clean. What is less can be reused in our creations, therefore unique pieces, essentially accessories.
The 90-meter shop is run by five people with disabilities: Véronique, Valérie, Nathalie, Nicolas and Mickaël. “In addition to allowing them to become real economic players in the region by taking part in an activity open to the public, our solidarity shop promises eco-responsible consumer behavior, in an approach to environmental preservation, which is essential today. »
A 2-year restructuring plan
ESAT CLEOS, which supports more than 90 adults with disabilities on a daily basis in their professional development, has chosen, in 2021, to develop its commercial activity under the name of CLEOS, acronym for Cooperative, Local, Ecological, Open and Solidarity .
“Building on these values, in addition to its historical activities of packaging, maintenance of green spaces and sewing, ESAT CLEOS first opened a carpentry workshop whose products are mainly made from recycled wood: table, composter, birdhouse, and even a counter, offered at the solidarity shop. »
It is the culmination of a 2-year restructuring plan “directed with determination” by the professional teams of ESAT CLEOS and the people supported, which also saw the renovation of the nursery and the creation of a space reception and sale, at its entrance.
“This new stage is, finally, the reflection of our desire to include all of our activities in an approach of Corporate Social Responsibility, or RSO1, and inclusive”, finished François Geindre, president of APAJH 14.
