The US should not miscalculate Greece, Erdoğan warns
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a new message to the US “not to miscalculate Greece” in an interview he gave to CNN Turk. He once again attacked Greece for the militarization of the islands, including the USA, even calling on Washington not to allow the manipulation of international public opinion.
Erdogan noted that on the issue of the militarization of the islands and especially the transfer of heavy American weapons to them, “as proved” by photos of Turkish drones, Turkey sent the necessary warnings to both the US and Greece. He reminded that the last Turkish letter to the UN is dated September 17.
The goal, a “clear horizon” until the polls
“Not only did we detect it, but the American armored vehicles advertised to threaten us. We say to the US, you will not find Turkey an ally,” said the Turkish president and repeated his unity for the nine American bases in Greece.
Athens refuses dialogue
He accused Greece of avoiding dialogue and blocking the way to the international court, noting “you are in favor of international law, why do you avoid meeting?”
He insisted that the militarization of the Eastern Aegean islands is in violation of the terms of the Treaty of Lausanne. While he also referred to the announcement of the National Security Council of Turkey that met earlier on Wednesday.
The lifting of the arms embargo
At the same time, the Turkish president also expressed his strong dissatisfaction with Washington’s decision to impose an arms embargo on the Republic of Cyprus. He claimed – as reported by the Turkish Anatolou news agency – that this move has no explanation either in relation to the time it was chosen to take place or in its essence.
“Everyone should know that this last step will not go unanswered and every measure will be taken to protect the Turkish Cypriots,” he warned.
