the point of the technician Costigliolo – Lavocedigenova.it
The adventure of CUS Genova Volley in Serie B continues. Four years after the promotion of the Galletti, in 2018, the team will still be engaged in this category, more precisely in Group A. All with a squad that has undergone some changes while maintaining the guidance of Guido Costigliolo.
“Let’s say the squad has changed,” admits the Biancorossi coach. Donati and Repossi have stopped, as has Alloisio. The adventure of Louza, captain, has also ended due to his transfer to Milan for work. “As for the dribbles we are the same,” confirms the coach, as did Filippo Calcagnini and Federico Bargi, players with experience respectively in Serie B and between Serie A2 and Serie A3. But not only that: Mario Mercorio, a player with a great past in Serie A2, also arrives in Biancorosso. Paolo Volpe in the center and Matteo Piombo also returned to Biancorosso, while the various Alessandrini, Cassone, Gobbi, Nebbia, Poggio, Archetti and Bellini, the new captain of the Galletti, are also present.
«Let’s say that Paolo Pampuro is always with me», Costigliolo comments, «a guarantee for me», while Viale will no longer be present in the first team, dealing entirely with youth teams. Luca Torri will be part of the staff, who will also cover the role of scoutman. «We hope to have a quiet championship», adds the coach, «for once I’d like to have a championship in which I don’t have to worry too much about the relegation zone».
A very competitive championship, which has risen from 12 to 14 teams, in which many teams have equipped themselves compared to last season. Alba, newly promoted, has made important grafts, as has Acqui. Alto Canavese has strengthened, Colombo has been recruiting around taking very interesting players, Albissola can count on important additions including Louza, while Zephyr and NPSG La Spezia have lost some important players. «A championship that is waiting to be discovered», affirms the coach, «certainly very level in which the favorites will probably be among the first four we meet: Sant’Anna, Aqui, Ciriè and Alto Canavese». “Past these challenges”, he adds, “we will see what our strength will be.”
An adventure, that of Costigliolo, started again on the bench last season, a few years after the last season with the University students. But what was the game-play that took place last season? «Definitely the challenge before Christmas in Lavagna», replies the coach, «when we won and for the first time we left the red zone». “There was the belief that you could really achieve salvation,” he adds, “then we won against the Zephyr and we had the confirmation of that.”
With the championship at the gates, therefore, the desire remains only one for Costigliolo and his staff. «My hope and Pampuro’s», in closing, «is to have fun and have a quiet championship without too many anxieties».
