Polestar 3 premieres in Denmark
Polestar’s first SUV has its world premiere on October 12, and it’s happening in Denmark.
Polestar is now approaching a five-figure number of Polestar 2 here in Norway, and it’s time for the next step. And after 2 comes, as is well known, 3.
Unsurprisingly, the Swedes are going for an SUV when they have to follow up the Polestar 2, and according to themselves is a «powerful, design-driven electric SUV with high performance, which appeals to the senses with a clear silhouette and excellent driving dynamics».
And it shouldn’t be about the quality either, because this is a close relative of Volvo’s upcoming electric flagship, the EX90, which will also be premiered this year. Both electric SUV models are assembled on the SPA2 platform for Volvo Cars.
Volvo has already hinted that the electric sister of the XC90 will be quite as safe, and perhaps the very safest car that has previously entered series production.
The Polestar 3 reaps the benefits of this, and the car is equipped with a central processor from Nvidia and components from well-known suppliers such as Zenseact, Luminar and Smart Eye. This makes it quite a smart car that should also be able to avoid a scary situation.
Men Polestar itself has thought more than safety.
‒ We asked ourselves: «What should a modern SUV look like?», reports Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath.
‒ The Polestar 3 defines the SUV for the electric age, and in the design we considered some of the basic characteristics of the archetype: proportions, attitude and aerodynamics.
The Polestar brand itself is mostly from Volvo’s motorsport venture, so there is a responsibility on the brand when it comes to both performance and driving characteristics. And what Polestar can tell about the Polestar 3 seems promising.
They say that they have not only thought about acceleration straight ahead, but also handling in the corners. So here they have, among other things, mounted on an adaptive 2-chamber air suspension system and active dampers that allow the car to switch between comfort and sport, and this system is adjusted to pass the conditions and time every two milliseconds (500 Hz).
The car also comes with electric torque vectoring via a dual-clutch system on the rear electric motor, which makes the Polestar 3 use the forces in the best possible way.
‒ It’s this immediate ability to transform from a comfortable cruiser to a sharp, nimble, high-performance car in less than an instant that makes the Polestar 3 special as an electric SUV, says Ingenlath.
‒ It also benefits from a low center of gravity and wide track width for ultimate stability, and an exciting feeling behind the wheel.
When it comes to power, Polestar reports that the car has 380 kW (510 hp) and a torque of a whopping 910 Nm, and it has also received Polestar’s signature ‒ Swedish Gold details. These find their way to, among other things, ventilation, seat belts and on a laser-etched interior light strip.
Polestar is also a true friend of Scandinavia, and is actually opening its first viewing center in Oslo rather than in Sweden. And for the Polestar 3, they find their way over to Copenhagen, because that is where the upcoming SUV model will have its premiere on October 12.
I add to the Polestar 3 also a more compact SUV in the form of the Polestar 4, and this is expected to arrive next year.
Furthermore, the plan for the Polestar 5, a sporty 4-door GT, is ready in 2024, and then in 2026 the impressive roadster concept in the form of the Polestar 6 must be in place.
But before 4,5 and 6 comes 3, and it is now just weeks away from the premiere.
