“A sector out of breath. ” The workers social and medico-social configured on Wednesday September 28, 2022 in front of the seine maritime prefecture a Rouen to make their voices heard. An interfederal collective of 13 federations and unions met at 2:30 p.m. In total, nearly 300 people joined the ranks of the procession.
These professionals are calling for a “general revaluation of the social and medico-social sector”, in particular an increase in wages for all in order to strengthen the attractiveness of the profession. The demonstrators are also demanding more resources for “quality support for the most vulnerable in our society”, in a sector deemed “in crisis”.
Revalue the profession
“Recruitment, resignations and the expectation of salary increases have undermined the social climate of the structures and discredited the sector, often invisible, and yet present in all territories”, deplores in a press release Papillons Blancs 76, a Petit-Quevilly association which has been supporting children and adults with disabilities since 1955. Salaries, which are low in these professions, contribute to the loss of attractiveness of the sector.
Other local structures were present during this event, like the ESAT (Establishment and service of assistance through work) Le Pré de la Bataille de Rouen. This association accompanies on a daily basis people with disabilities, social or distant from the world of employment.
“Forgotten from Ségur”
Nathalie, secretary at the Pré de la Bataille in Rouen, considers herself “forgotten by Ségur”. “We are the first to welcome people with disabilities. We are in regular contact with them. We are also in the accompaniment, ”she proclaims. Josiane is a technical agent, and she supervises groups every day. Both are 25 and 35 years old respectively. However, they did not benefit from the Ségur bonus. They denounce “an injustice”.
“It’s not fair”, claims Elsa, a colleague who coordinates the provision of services and who was able to benefit from the Ségur bonus. “We are all in the accompaniment,” she says.
Through this new mobilization, social and medico-social professionals want their requests to be raised with the public authorities. Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the call of the CGT, they were already grouped together in the but to claim more means and recognition in their work.
