Foot OM – OM: Marseille counter-attack against UEFA
Sanctioned by a total closed session in the Champions League by UEFA, OM is thinking about appealing to the body.
Next week, Olympique de Marseille welcomes Sporting Portugal in a crucial match for its European future, after two defeats in the Champions League against Tottenham and then against Frankfurt, at home. A hard blow for Igor Tudor’s team, this meeting must be played behind closed doors after the incidents which occurred against the Germans, and in particular the throwing of smoke bombs by OM supporters towards the Frankfurt kop. Olympique de Marseille was suspended and was therefore harshly sanctioned by UEFA. But according to information from RMC Sport, the Marseille club is currently considering the possibility of appealing this decision to the European body. Indeed, OM is in the process of putting together a case to explain that the violence and the throwing of smoke bombs were first initiated by the German park.
OM has put together a file with UEFA
The Olympian management is nevertheless aware that the supporters of OM have distinguished themselves in the wrong way by responding to the provocations of the German supporters. But the argument of the vice-champion of France in title consists in explaining that OM immediately reacted by identifying the troublemakers and by deleting their subscription in a definitive way to the Orange Vélodrome. To date, no decision has been made regarding this possible appeal. Whatever OM decides, the chances of seeing UEFA reconsider their decision to go behind closed doors for the game against Sporting Portugal on the third day of the Champions League are slim. Especially since within the European body, we note that OM have not found a real way to reduce incidents inside the stadium after the bad experiences of last season in the Europa League and in the Conference League for the receptions of Galatasaray, PAOK Salonika or even Feyenoord Rotterdam. The chances of seeing a packed Velodrome for the reception of Sporting next week are therefore very low.
