TC Genoa mission salvation: the Captains speak
The official start to the Serie A1 championship is approaching and the countdown involves the two teams that the TC Genoa 1893 will line up at the starting line in both the men’s and women’s tournaments.
The TC has been able to sign unforgettable feats in the centenary history of the top national championship, such as, remaining with the memories of the 2000s, the six finals in series centered on seven editions, up to 2019, by the red and white girls, or the historic double final of 2014 at the Fiumara in Genoa, in which the women’s team won the championship and the men’s team surrendered to Canottieri Aniene at the photo finish.
Walter Barilla and Mauro Balestra, captains of the men’s and women’s teams respectively, face the 2022 edition of the A1, that of the centenary, with a common goal, that of staying in the top category of national tennis.
“On paper we are playing with TC Pistoia for third place in group 2 – explains BarillariCaptain for eight seasons of the men’s team and for almost thirty years at TC Genova-, then anything can happen, but salvation remains our goal to reach. The A1 series has always been about the availability of players engaged in the international circuit. From our point of view, if we will be able to field the guys who succeed find themselves in this condition, like Matteo Arnaldi for example, how can we have our say. However, being able to count a player like Arnaldi is a great satisfaction for us, he is a young athlete who has grown a lot, tied to our shirt and who, compatibly with his international programming, will be able to give us a big hand“.
A similar reading of the A1 championship, which is now just around the corner, is provided by Mauro Balestraanother long-time captain.
“In Serie A1 it is very difficult to make predictions – admits Crossbow -, Because there are many variables and the presence at the meetings of players who carry out international activities is by no means taken for granted. Much depends on the nursery deployed. These are considerations to keep in mind and which make predictions on the eve difficult. We have changed a lot within our group, Samsonova is a very high ranking player with very intense activity and the same goes for Bronzetti. Speaking of nursery, Valente is a very young girl with a great prospect who is growing and needs to accumulate experience. Last year we were saved thanks to a decisive double in which we also lined up Giulia Assereto, a very faithful red and white. The last tournament recorded the double relegation of Prato and Lucca, the winning battleships of the last two editions. Serie A1 is an unpredictable championship, we hope to repeat ourselves and win salvation, perhaps with more tranquility.“.
