some already are in the Alpes-Maritimes
Good news for Monegasques: the bus network will be made free for the next two months. Let’s take stock of free transport in the Alpes-Maritimes, often mentioned during election campaigns…
The municipality and the Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco have announced that all buses will be freely accessible from October 3 to November 27, 2022.
The objective is to enhance the attractiveness of the Principality’s public transport network, in particular in order to ease road traffic congestion and reduce the carbon footprint of each user.

At the same time, the city launched a poster campaign aimed at three types of audience: “I move ecologically and economically” for students, “I travel practical and responsible” for assets and “My travels in complete serenity” for seniors.
Partial free in Nice
Free public transport is resolved to a promising theme, at a time when the price of gasoline is soaring and when sustainable development has become a priority.
During the 2020 municipal elections in Nice, the candidate Patrick Allemand (PS), opponent of Christian Estrosi, promised total free transport before the end of his mandate.
It financed this measure by increasing the tourist tax on 4-star hotels and above.
Same story on the side of the VIVA electoral list! (Citizen Rally of the Left and Ecology), whose subject was one of the strong promises.
However, as we announced last summer, the mayor of Nice has also played the game by introducing, from 2021, free transport every weekend – bus and tram – for 18-25 year olds, throughout the metropolitan territory.
To do this, all you have to do is subscribe to a “weekend pass” for an 8 euro administration fee.
The devices that exist in the 06
Also in Nice, two small red electric buses (20 seats) have been making it possible to make short journeys in the heart of the city since 2021, on a loop of around 4 kilometres:
Since November 2019, the city center of Menton has been accessible by 100% electric and 100% free shuttle.
It serves 10 stations with a rotation every 20 minutes, all year round from Monday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In Antibes, transport is free for people over 75 and for people with reduced mobility.
Ditto in Cannes and in the agglomeration of the Pays de Lérins for seniors aged 65 and over, non-taxable.
