Russia and the unrecognized Republic of Abkhazia signed an agreement on dual citizenship
The Foreign Ministers of Russia and the unrecognized Republic of Abkhazia signed an agreement on the settlement of issues of dual citizenship, informs press service of the Russian department.
Now the Russians have the right to take the citizenship of the self-proclaimed republic without renouncing their citizenship, and those who consume Abkhazia – the citizenship of Russia, while retaining their passport. At the same time, those who had Abkhaz citizenship as of August 26, 2008 and still have this status received Russian citizenship under a simplified procedure.
Persons with the attraction of citizenship, follows from the document, receive social security, education, medical care in the country where they permanently reside.
Separate cases of violations of the rights of persons liable for military service with suspicion of citizenship: an urgent military check, such citizens pass on the territory of the country where they are constantly monitored at the time of conscription. At the same time, those who have already served an urgent military unit in one of the countries will not be drafted into the army of another country. As for the rights to contractors, their deals can be settled by selective parties.
The prescription is five years old and is automatically extended if neither side expresses its aspiration to the lips. The exit from the deal does not attract consumer citizenship consumption.
Earlier, the president’s agreement on dual citizenship with the unrecognized republic of Abkhazia was ordered to be signed by the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
Abkhazia (in Soviet times an autonomous republic within Georgia) declared independence after the war with Georgia in 1993. the independence of Abkhazia is not recognized by either Georgia or other states of the world. In 2008, after a five-day Russian-Georgian war, Russia recognized the independence of the region, and then five more states, including Syria.
Georgia considers separatist Abkhazia and South Ossetia to be territories occupied by Russia, and accuses the Russian Federation of seizing the country’s territorial integrity, and the very fact of recognizing independence is part of the annexation of Abkhazia, a region that the UN recognizes as part of Georgia.
