The event that “brings the world to Milan and Milan to the world”. The JazzMi festival returns this fall for a seventh edition. From September 29 to October 9, over 200 appointments around jazz will take place across the metropolis of Milan. Concerts with more than 80 free dates but also exhibitions, films or workshops. With JazzMi aroundfive other municipalities will enjoy the party and many green spaces will turn into a stage with its formula All in green.
Jazz immerses the greatest halls and museums of Milan
From big names in jazz to young neighborhood groups, more than 500 artists will meet in the biggest halls of the city. First in the dal Verme theatre, the Conservatory, but also in other various places such as the Volvo Studio Milano, the Armani / Silos, the Politecnico Milano or the ADI Design Museum. The Triennale Milano and the Blue Note will however remain the two determining points of the event.
For the inaugural day, the Triennale will welcome Fabrizio Bosso Quartet for a return to the stage with an intimate project “We Wonder”, a tribute to the famous Stevie Wonder in the company of clarinetist Nico Gori. The opening night will be held at the Teatro dal Verme, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, with a double concert, first with the rising star, Venerus solo on the piano, followed by Casino Royale with Saverio Tasca and Marta Del Grandi.
One of the most anticipated duos are the bold and sassy Uri Caine and Theo Bleackmann with their reinterpretation of classic Western art songs at the Triennale. The museum-theatre will allow artists to make their first entry into the festival, such as the composer and pianist Vijay Iyer or the energetic brass orchestra of Chicago, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.
On the Blue Note side, we go back to the 80s with the British group Matt Bianco. Or we indulge in fusion experiments between traditional jazz and post-bop by Jeremy Pelt Quintet, or more melodious with Bob Reynolds Group. To honor the most natural of instruments, the voice, Myles Sanko will offer his in a soul genre and Richard Marx in a sophisticated pop.
Don’t forget the dates at the Milan Conservatory, historical partner of the event. Jazz is electrified with Jeff Mills and Jean-Phy Dary and their project The paradox. But above all the closing of the festival with the presentation of Rapahel Gualazzi’s latest album.
