Can Hertha BSC Berlin see a positive change? fans at odds
Berlin veteran Marvin Plattenhardt is optimistic about the future of Hertha BSC, despite his only mixed performances on paper. Last season you could only save yourself in the relegation and this season the ‘old lady’ has only collected six points in seven match days, but the situation in the club is completely different, as the Berlin captain affirms.
FanQ therefore asked German football fans whether they could also see a change in the capital city club.
Plattenhardt: “There is new impetus in every area”
“We work very well together. There is new impetus in the whole club, in the team, in practically every area. That can be felt everywhere”, Marvin Plattenhardt the current emotional state of the “old lady” in an interview with the “kicker”. The direction that his team has taken under the new trainer Sandro Schwarz is “right”, emphasized the new captain of the ‘Blue-Whites’.
“But of course we would have more points,” admitted the veteran. In the last few games, his team would have “dropped a total of four points, which would put us in a different position in the table.” Hertha were denied a penalty against Bayer Leverkusen and they had to accept the late equalizer in Mainz.
Compared to last season, the offensive game in particular has changed and improved, the 30-year-old continues. “We’re getting deeper faster now and creating a lot of chances,” he said of the Berlin team’s transition game.
“But we’ve also made a clear step forward defensively and are much more compact. You can see that the offensive players are also working well towards the back. We act more as a unit. That wasn’t always the case in the past,” admitted the left-back.
Despite the words of praise, Hertha BSC could only score seven goals this season. “Sometimes we lack the last bit of determination here and there, sometimes the right decision with the last or penultimate ball. But I’m not worried about our strikers. I have great confidence in her,” said the new Hertha captain.
The left footer owes his new role to his coach Sandro Schwarz, who according to Plattenhardt played a major role in the “new” style of the Berliners. He “got the whole team on board from the start. He tickled and got every one of us with his content. He whips us from the outside and tries everything to ensure that we march for 90 minutes and immediately start counter-pressing if we lose the ball,” revealed the defender about his coach.
“He instilled this style of play in us during preparation. And I think we implement them very well in most games,” said the 30-year-old happily. In view of the partially positive words of the Berlin leader, FanQ asked football fans in Germany whether they also noticed a change at Hertha BSC.
Opinions differ greatly on this. 44.12% of the people taking part in the survey are of the opinion that the mood of optimism communicated by Plattenhardt is noticeable in the capital city club. Exactly as many (44.12%) of those who obviously see no significant difference in the Hertha game compared to the rather poor performances of the past season.
