New site, new logo, new graphic charter and new programming… No doubt, it’s definitely back to school at Metronum!
“Bring the public back”
The room of current music based on Bordeaux, in the north of Toulousemust, like other performance halls, find a way to win back a less diligent and more volatile audience since the outbreak of the Covid-19 crisis…
“The start of 2022 was not easy, with significant drops in frequency, equivalent to what is happening in other current music venues since the Covid crisis”, explains Virginie Choquartthe director of the Metronum.
“We asked ourselves how to bring back our audience, and in particular the young people who are our natural audience. It took courage to put everything back together, review our programming and offer new experiences to the public”, underlines the director. “The challenge is to be able to bring the public back, to get people back into the habit of coming back to live music, and not just on the Internet! We have to give them back the desire”, acquiesce Francois Grass, Deputy Mayor of Toulouse in charge of Culture.
“A place of reference in terms of the representation of women”
So, who sees at the Métronum? For several years, one of the strong choices of the performance hall has been to grant a large place to women in its programming. And that will continue this season.
“The Metronum has become a place of reference in terms of the representation of women in music and we are very proud of that. There are a lot of women in our programming, but not just women”, underlines Virginie Choquart, at the origin with her teams of the first female mentoring program in contemporary music.
And it’s true, many women will be performing at the Métronum this year. Are expected in particular Aloise Sauvage, November Ultra and Dream1uh October during the Women Metronume Academy Festival. We also mention the revelation Emma Peters who will come with his guitar on October 8; or the Toulouse CloZee (in concert on October 15), whose electro music hit the mark in the United States, where she now lives. On November 5, it will be around the talented Fishbach (back with a successful second album). Will also follow the former singer of Thérapie Taxi, Ade (January 26), or Melissa Laveaux (March 26). Another highly anticipated event: the musical reading (scheduled for March 15) of the feminist icon Virginie Despentes who will be accompanied for the occasion by the post-rock band Zero.
new appointment
However, male artists are not forgotten: rappers Medina (December 16), and Youv Dee (March 9) or even the people of Toulouse Bigflo and Oli (December 12, sold out) will also be there.
The Metronum is also a land of welcome for several festivals (Ellipse, Clubbin Toulouse, Girls Don’t Cry Festival) of the Toulouse conurbation.
Another new appointment: “The Gems of the Metronum”, an event dedicated to the development and support of rising figures on the music scene. The first (with Lonny, Sigal and Meshai), will take place on October 21. Conferences, workshops, meetings, masterclasses, screenings, etc. are also organized throughout the year.
