The Netherlands is looking for more control over the development of 6G
The core of the new FNS consortium lies with TNO, TU Delft and TU/e, where a great deal of knowledge about mobile networks is already available. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate (EZK) and the ICT Top Sector endorse the need to take a leading position in 6G development. According to TNO, approximately thirty telecom companies, technical universities and knowledge institutions have already established themselves. But TNO is now asking other organizations involved to come forward as well.
Four program lines
The consortium’s plans focus on four program lines: the development of intelligent components, intelligent networks, applications and strengthening the ecosystem. In addition to the development of hardware and software for setting up the new generation of networks, it is also important to think about – and follow up with – new applications for, among other things, lean energy networks (grids), autonomous vehicles and industrial robots for production. and logistics. But during the project, which runs from 2023 to 2028, there is room for adding new application domains.
The consortium also believes that more than important is emerging in the Netherlands between organizations working in this area. For example, the consortium aims to develop a national testbed infrastructure, stimulate and support the development of startups and scale-ups and apply more talent using a specific ‘Human Capital’ agenda. In addition, the consortium is looking for international connections.
