The other city district decided to irrigate its parks and greenery in a smart and ecological way. Thanks to this, she saved almost half of the usual costs.
Dvojka is one of the greenest central city districts. That is why he invests a lot of money every year in the maintenance of parks and greenery. In response to worsening climate changes, she decided to also try new ways of caring for greenery, which are already showing their benefits. Smart irrigation brings significant savings both in terms of money and energy. She informed about it on website.
“We add greenery in parks and streets, establish flowery meadows, build new water features and retention tanks to collect rainwater. The introduction of technology procedures in the field of green care and water management is already bringing the first concrete results, informs the mayor of Prague 2, Alexandra Udženija (ODS).
Better quality greenery for half the money
This spring, for example, the city district started a smart irrigation project for part of Rieger’s orchards. According to the mayor, it paid off very well over the summer. Thanks to new technologies, the district saved almost half of its usual energy costs.
“Thanks to our solution, water can be saved by up to 50 percent, and the quality of urban greenery is incomparably higher. Standard irrigation systems are not efficient. It releases water regardless of important data from the root system or the local climate. Our system registers up to 9 values, according to which it is decided whether the water will be released, for how long and to which places. Our setting of the ideal ratio is an almost unprecedented rarity,” said Petr Zlotý, head of Smart Irrigation at CleverFarm.
And he adds: “The investment group NATLAND founded the VODA organization, of which we are important members and consists of professional irrigators and academics, with one goal – how to use water as efficiently as possible not only in parks, but also on golf courses, football pitches, etc. The topics concern for example sources of use of commercial water.”
The system has already proven itself twice, and will soon appear in other places as well
The new old system of fourteen monitoring devices with nine control units is used to irrigate the observation meadow in Rieger’s orchards. The town hall paid approximately 165,000 crowns for the system, and another 1,700 crowns per month is the cost of its operation.
The first place where the remote-controlled system proved its worth in Prague was the Bratří Čapků Gardens. Cleverarm tried it there in its first year. The project proved so successful that the second city district decided to install it in Rieger’s orchards this year as well. Due to its success there, it should start to appear in other parks in the territory of the number two.
The number two is dedicated to sustainability
Prague 2 is also dedicated to sustainability in the projects of the Sustainable Two programme. Within its framework, it also proposes and implements other measures in the areas of the environment and changes in the environment.
