President Maia Sandu discussed with several heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Chisinau about the economic and security challenges facing the Republic of Moldova
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, had a meeting with several ambassadors accredited to our country on Monday, September 26. According to the presidential institution, the discussions focused on the economic and security challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova and the entire region as a result of Russian aggression towards Ukraine.
“President Maia Sandu thanked the partner countries for the financial and humanitarian support that Moldova benefited from with the start of the war and which helped us manage the refugee crisis in the neighboring country,” announced the Presidency in a statement.
Also, according to the presidential institution, during the meeting with the ambassadors accredited in our country, the head of state mentioned the importance of the political support of European countries, but also the personal effort made by foreign ambassadors for the Republic of Moldova to obtain the status of a candidate country for accession.
“President Maia Sandu emphasized that European integration is the goal towards which all the efforts of the authorities in Chisinau are now directed and that they are working on reforms in the areas highlighted in the opinion of the European Commission”, the Presidency also announces.
The Republic of Moldova received, on June 23, 2022, the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union (EU). This statute does not grant the status of a member state of the EU, because it is necessary for the Republic of Moldova to meet a number of conditions for accession, as well as to apply European legislation in all areas.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, European countries have helped the Republic of Moldova with financial support, so that our country can face the economic challenges, as well as provided the necessary humanitarian aid to the Republic of Moldova to manage the Ukrainian refugee crisis.
