Passengers on a fully occupied train from Zurich to Vienna were trapped for four hours on Sunday. Due to a technical defect, the Railjet 161 suddenly stopped shortly after the Linz (Austrian) train station, as reported by the “Krone”.
Shortly after departure from Zurich at 1:31 p.m., a long wait began for the approximately 800 passengers. Nobody could get out, the doors were closed. Then the air conditioning went out.
All doors remain closed for four hours. It comes as it must: Some passengers panic. The fire brigade and paramedics have to move in. Three people are taken to the hospital with findings, the newspaper reports.
Difficult repair work
Meanwhile, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) are trying to fix the defect in the train. That doesn’t work, so you try to attach another railcar – that too in vain.
Finally, the ÖBB decides to evacuate the passengers. First, these buses are to board, which also does not go according to plan. Among other things, the railway company clears another train and lets the stranded passengers board there. With a mega delay, the passengers still reach their destination.
