Organized crime is supreme in the Netherlands: ‘Municipalities stand with their backs to the wall’
Criminals seem to be in charge in the Netherlands. strikingly different municipalities, including Deventer. The personnel shortages at the police and the righteous are so high that often ‘just’ are released again.
“We are working very hard to make up for the shortages, but you do not have a well-trained agent overnight,” said MP Anne Kuik in WNL Haagse Lobby on NPO Radio 1.
But solving problems is not the way the legal system struggles. The public prosecutor’s office is also alarmingly low. “They work very hard, but what you see is that they can’t handle it people. They are normally released again and as a municipality you then have your back against the wall,” says Mayor of Deventer, Ron König.
What’s worse? “Normally, the police, justification, municipalities, but also the FIOD work together to tackle. That structure is now completely missing.” König recognizes that the police are trying hard, but sees major problems for municipalities. “You are often really alone.”
