Nouryon co-hosts the Icos Capital Innovation Summit Accelerating Sustainability In Sweden
“At Nouryon, we believe that being open to ideas and enthusiasm from external partners is an important part of helping us achieve our ambitious goals to continuously improve our environmental performance. We therefore work closely both with customers to develop solutions that meet their changing needs, and create partnerships with external parties such as startups whose unique ideas complement our experience, resources and business needs,” says Staffan Asplund, Performance Formulations R&D and Technology Director at Nouryon.
Nouryon’s corporate partnership with Icos Capital dates back to 2017 and has enabled several strategic partnership discussions and insights on innovation critical to Nouryon. With an annual commitment, Nouryon wants to invest in fast-growing industrial climate technology companies with a focus on accelerating sustainability.
“Nouryon is making good progress in the early stages of our decarbonisation strategy which includes short- and long-term initiatives, and we are continuously exploring collaborative opportunities to evaluate and deploy new innovative technologies such as those in ICO’s Capital Fund III. Our hosting of the Summit in Sweden is a tailor-made event that supports Nouryon’s innovation priorities including our aspiration to be a net-zero organization by 2050, says Vivi Hollertt, Chief Sustainability and Communications Officer at Nouryon.
Nouryon is a member of the West Sweden Chemicals and Material Cluster and has a strong presence in West Sweden with production facilities and innovation centers in Stenungsund and Bohus as well as Nouryon’s largest office, the newly established Nordic Business Center in Gothenburg.
Several of Nouryon’s most noted inventions have their origins in Sweden. For example, Kromasil®, a key component of a unique technology to purify insulin; Expancel® expandable microspheres that can reduce the cost and weight of cold roof coatings and provide greater elasticity; and Levasil® and Bermocoll® for high-quality, long-lasting water-based paints.
Nouryon is well on track with its sustainability commitment, as reported in our 2021 Sustainability Report. Nouryon has set ambitious sustainability targets for 2030, which include reducing operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for Scopes 1 and 2 by 40%, reducing water consumption intensity by 10% and reducing of the total waste intensity by 10%, compared to a 2019 base year. By 2050, the company aims to be a net zero organization.
