Édouard Wojciak : “J’ai reçu une proposition de Bordeaux que j’ai accepté. Finalement, j’ai été transféré pour dix millions de francs”
For the Violetsthe former left winger passed by Toulouse FC and the Girondins de Bordeaux, Edouard Wojciak. It was in Gironde, from 1967 to 1973, that he had his best moments: vice-champion of France in Division 1 in 1969, finalist in the Coupe de France in 1968 and 1969 and
finalist in the Challenge des champions in 1968. In total, he totaled 254 first division matches for 62 goals scored. Now 80 years old, he will look back on his career.
“I started my career at the TFC in 1962, where I turned professional, until 1967. Then I went to the Girondins de Bordeaux from 1967 to 1973. There, I played in two Coupe de France finals , all unfortunately lost: the first against Saint-Etienne in 1968 where I scored the Bordeaux goal (2-1), and the second against Marseille (2-0). Finally, I came back to US Toulouse thanks to President Buzzichelli, when the club was in the second division. I played three years with a great team, including Casolari, Trivic and Blanchard, before retiring in 1976”.
Then he remembered his transfer to the Girondins de Bordeaux.
“Unlike today, where players can commit for three or four years, we were automatically linked to our club until we were 35. When TFC merged with Red Star, I didn’t want to stay. I received a proposal from Bordeaux which I accepted (agents did not exist at that time, editor’s note). Finally, I was transferred for ten million (francs)! In Bordeaux, I therefore participated in the two finals of the Coupe de France against the two big cars of the time: Saint-Etienne and Marseille”.
