DiaNEOSis – Vocational education: Greece ranks 24th in the EU in terms of the digital skills of human resources – Economic Post
The development of Vocational Education and Training lags far behind other EU countries, according to the research of diaNEOsis, and specifically a group of researchers, under the coordination of Piraeus University professor Miltiadis Nektarios.
In particular, Greece is 24th in the EU in terms of the digital skills of the human resources, 32nd among the 33 OECD countries in terms of the percentage of participation of the human resources in training programs and last in the EU (together with Spain) in terms of the skills of the human resources potential. potential, according to the European Skills Index.
Youth unemployment in Greece is more than double compared to the EU
Indicators factored into the DIANEOsis survey include youth unemployment which is more than double the EU average, while 42.6% of products say they struggle to fill mid-level jobs.

Finally, it should be noted that with the 3.9% of GDP that our country has for education (2018), it ranks second from the end in the Eurozone and below the EU average.
Another interesting finding of the survey is that the percentage of graduates of vocational training programs who were employed in 2018 reached 50.5% – against the EU average of 80%.
Regarding the role that Vocational Education and Training is called upon to play, it is noteworthy that the estimate that in the next twenty years the number of young people aged 15-19 entering secondary and higher education is predicted to decrease by 23%.
Greek youth do not prefer technical education
Only 1 in 3 pupils choose to go to a VET in secondary education and only 7% go to an Apprenticeship VET when in the EU the proportion choosing a form of apprenticeship is as high as 70%.
It should also be noted that 35.5% of students (1 in 3) who enroll in Post-High School Years – Apprenticeship Classes do not attend in the end – many students enroll because enrollment secures a deferral of conscription.
