Dialogue in LuxembourgAt Luxair, “we will almost return to normal”
LUXEMBOURG – Most of the measures taken at the height of the pandemic at Luxair will cease on January 1, the participants of the aviation tripartite have decided.
“We have observed that the job retention plan, decided during the previous tripartite aviation in 2020, was no longer relevant”, summed up François Bausch (Déi Gréng), Minister of Mobility, at the end of the new tripartite aviation, this Monday morning. “We will return almost to normal on January 1, because the pandemic has been largely brought under control in terms of the number of trips,” he rejoices.
Next year, the wage freeze measure will no longer be applied, to the satisfaction of trade unionists, who had organized a demonstration in the morning to put pressure. “It was one of our demands,” recalls Patrick Dury, president of the LCGB. “When the crisis is over, the crisis measures must stop. Including the wage freeze, that makes us happy,” said Michelle Cloos, negotiator for the OGBL. Initially, the measure was to end, a year later, on December 31, 2023.
The environment “remains difficult”
Partial short-time working will no longer be applied, “with immediate effect”, specifies François Bausch. The 69 people on temporary labor loan will be offered “a solution, either with the State, where they work today, or by being reintegrated into the company”. On the other hand, the possibility of early retirement will still be open next year, with 44 people concerned, according to the minister.
“For Luxair, the basics are there. It is now up to us, together, to ensure that it starts again,” summarizes Michelle Cloos. Gilles Feith, CEO of the company, stresses on the other hand that the environment “remains difficult”. According to him, the activity remains “below the level of 2019”. If they hope that the activity of the company will be able to take off again, the social partners have set “a meeting clause in the event that other problems arise, for example because of a regression”, relates François Bausch.
