Buses will be free for two months in Monaco
The “test” project for free buses in the Principality was presented at the Ministry of State, this Monday morning.
All buses circulating in the Principality will be free from October 3 to November 27. A free period accessible to all, set up by the Prince’s Government, in association with the Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco.
Reduce car trips
” There are 110,000 daily trips, entering and leaving Monaco », it is on this figure that Céline Caron-Diagoni, Minister of Equipment, Environment and Urbanism, begins her explanations. The purpose of these two months of free buses in the Principality is to ” restore a taste for this transport and, above all, to reduce traffic density. With this project, the Prince’s Government is aiming for 10,000 less circular vehicles circulating in Monaco. This represents a 5% reduction in total vehicle traffic and 20% in intramural traffic.
“ We will contribute to user awareness “, continues Céline Caron-Diagoni. The Government Counselor presents this project as a ” live “which will bring a” feedback », which will make it possible to observe the changes, or not, in the habits of users in the Principality. But first, you have to give it to her” the greatest radiation possible. »

A major communication campaign
During the presentation of the initiative, three posters, which will be installed throughout the Principality, were unveiled. The first concerns young people, another active people and the last, seniors. The Prince’s Government has called on a Monegasque communication agency to carry out its operation.
” I move ecological and economical “, can we read on the poster intended for young people; ” I travel practical and responsible », on the one intended for the assets; ” My travels in complete serenity on the one intended for seniors. ” We wanted to concern the whole population. Young people today are concerned about the ecological dimension of their daily lives, for active people we are aiming for responsible fiber and the practical side. Seniors already have free access to the bus but we want to include them in the communication campaign “, explains Céline Caron-Diagoni.
Surveys will respond to users, who will also be able to ask their questions. They will be available at bus stops, but also on the web.
For the Prince’s Government, the objective is not to establish permanent free access, but to observe whether changes are taking place among users in the Principality. ” This free service is one more argument to attract new bus users. “, an assured Céline Caron-Diagoni.
The CAM hopes to regain its 7 million registered passengers in 2019, a figure that the Principality has never reached again since the Covid crisis. Cost of this free operation: 695,000 euros, including 80,000 euros for communication.
