Tram traffic quiet. Catenary cut for extinguishing work | Brussels
BrusselsTram traffic comes to a standstill on Sunday morning because the lines were cut for a brand. A duplex on the third floor in the Brugmannlaan in Ixelles burned out.
At 9.50 am the fire brigade left for the duplex. It was uninhabited, but the smoke detectors present alerted the fire brigade to the accidental fire. “The residents of the lower interested people out in time and safely,” said Walter Derieuw. Ladder trucks were used to extinguish the fire. To provide safety, the overhead lines of the tram traffic will be cut. There was temporary disruption.
“The armored entrance door to the duplex was forced and the fire was quickly extinguished. After checking and ventilation, the other residents can safely return to their homes.”
Importance of smoke detectors
This proves once again the vital importance of a smoke detector. The stern sound has allowed the emergency services to be quickly notified, to evacuate safely and to nip the flames in the bud.
