Vegetated spaces, colored markings, secure surroundings: at Sotteville-les-Rouen (Seine-Maritime), the François-Mitterrand esplanade has had a facelift. In a joint press release dated Wednesday September 21, 2022, Nicolas Mayer-RossignolPresident of the Rouen Normandy Metropolis, and Luce Panemayor of Sotteville, announces the end of the work on this square which was mainly used as a parking lot.
The two elected officials recall that this project, carried out by the Metropolis and the City, is the subject of consultation. “This project was integrated with the inhabitants: more than 100 participants reflected on the future of the esplanade for several months! “, they congratulate each other.
“Guaranteeing the safety of all users”
“This requalification aims to appease the sector, to encourage appropriation and new uses of this place, located in the heart of the city and to guarantee the safety of all users: pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, underlines the press release. It also makes it possible to serenely articulate the links with the Sembat high schools, the Bois de la Garenne, the municipal library or the Town Hall square. »
Several developments have thus emerged on the axes near the esplanade:
- the creation of a roundabout at the crossroads of rue Léon-Salva and avenue de la Liberation,
- the total recovery and the creation of a two-way cycle path on Avenue de la Liberation,
- experimentation with an unmarked central lane (CVCB) on rue des Déportés,
- the resumption of the pavement carpet rue Léon-Salva, the color of the road and the realization of two raised platforms corresponding to the installation of a meeting zone (20 km/h).
The esplanade goes green
Involving “the first users of the sector (Marcel-Sembat high schools, municipal library, Bois-Petit hospital center, inhabitants of the sector)”, as well as “the children of the Municipal Youth Council (CME) and the Sottevillais Youth Council (CJS )”, the consultation highlighted another priority: the greening space.
In total, 370 m² were cleared and then planted on the François-Mitterrand esplanade!
The esplanade has also been equipped with benches. Finally, during the summer, “residents were invited to take part in the definition workshops carried out with the the graffiti artist Cosmoh on the theme of music and dance.
