Molise students protagonists of the National Festival of Civil Economy in Florence
CAMPOBASSO. It all begins in the room of the Director of the “Marconi” Technical Institute in Campobasso, Dr. Adelaide VILLA, who decides to participate in a research and experimentation activity promoted by INDIRE “COMPLEXITY LITERACY (WITH PCTO) IN THE SECOND CYCLE SCHOOL “.
This project started from the stable awareness that we live in an increasingly complex world, so we cannot continue to operate with a mind and a thought that “distinguish” us and separate us from the world, from nature, under the illusion of having control, ndo the logic of rigid borders between nations, culture, religions and knowledge; the more we try to have “clear and destroy ideas”, the more they obscure reality.
This complexity was explained by involving two classes of the Environmental Biotechnology curriculum with a path that accompanied the students to build their leadership in sustainable development processes, in a logic of rediscovering the centrality of the territory and its needs.
The project engaged the students for a whole school year with lessons with INDIRE experts in the morning and with the development of a Path for Transversal Skills and Orientation with the experts of NeXt (the civil society association network that promotes environmentally friendly economic models), in the afternoon.
The 5B of Environmental Biotechnology, after having analyzed the various environmental problems (by consulting, among other things, the data to measure Fair and Sustainable Wellbeing, publications on the site of the Molise region) that affect the territory, has chosen to deal with the abandonment of bulky waste ; the class analyzed the problem and the objective, set for the solution of the citizens themselves, was to make the creators aware and in them a civic conscience. They proceeded step by step: after administering questionnaires to the targets involved in the problem, they set goals:
OB. SPECIFIC 1: Inform about the consequences of incorrect behavior and pollution;
OB. SPECIFIC 2: involving citizens in awareness-raising events;
OB. SPECIFIC 3: Establish bonuses and incentives for correct behavior;
OB. SPECIFIC 4: establish sanctions for repeated misconduct.
The students were not involved in a simulation of the resolution of the problem: they wanted to bring the skills acquired in the limiting theoretical study into reality, ask the Mayor of the city of Trivento to become their partner in the realization of the project.
They are also studying the possibility of involving other municipalities in Molise in the near future, because, to reverse the trend towards bad practices, it is necessary to act concretely and synergistically.
The work carried out by the children participated in the national call for “Preparing for the Future… schools towards Florence” for the schools award of the National Festival of Civil Economy 2022.
Marconi was selected from around 200 classes (scattered throughout the country) and was among the 3 finalist classes; in Florence at the Festival the students carried out activities in the FNEC creating posts, photos and administering satisfaction questionnaires. Everything happened in an air of celebration but the aspect that surprised most was the collaboration between several generations: teenagers who had just come out of school, professionals who have their knowledge and their awareness and politicians who have become aware of problems of our society.
The great satisfaction for Marconi di Campobasso was obtaining the first prize for the work done by the students; the dedication, awareness and competence summarized in a 1 minute and 30 seconds video, where the preparation of the students and their innate sympathy shines through, also represented the winning weapon.
