Salzburg’s businesses in trade, industry and commerce are struggling massively with the constantly rising prices. This is the result of a survey by the Chamber of Commerce. The mere multiplication of electricity prices leads to dramatic measures. Jobs are already being lost and most products are becoming more and more expensive.
Four out of five entrepreneurs complain that the high electricity prices would hit them massively. For the vast majority, electricity prices would have doubled or quadrupled. According to the Chamber of Commerce, the situation is even more difficult for companies with very high power consumption. Here it should be five times to 14 times, so that high electricity bills are as in the past. Only a few would not feel the development so strongly, but they also expect massive tightening.
More than half of the more than 2,000 companies surveyed will invest less in the future. According to the Chamber of Commerce, this will bring the current boom to a standstill.
Significantly more unemployed soon?
While with further tightening on the cost and price front, short-time work is less considered as a solution, a fifth of managers quickly think about eliminating more people again. Three quarters are also considering their own price increases. According to the Chamber of Commerce, the scope is already very limited. More than a third of the companies recognize a significantly higher demand for their products, which does not exactly speak for price increases.
Employees: Politics does too little
Nine out of ten employees in Salzburg are hit hard by inflation. The Chamber of Labor sees this confirmed by a new IFES study. Above all, heating, electricity and the cost of living are the biggest concerns for many. At the same time, trust in politics is falling even more than before – more on this in salzburg.ORF.at (September 24, 2022)
